The Groom

Snowdrops with six outer petals and no inners are known as poculiform; although the flowers are rarely perfect with one or more petals misshapen.

Until now the opposite, with six petals like the inners has not been known. Galanthus The Groom has six petals exactly like the inner petals and is the exact opposite of poculiform. It is sturdy, very early flowering and a good doer. Strong bulbs sometimes produce twin headed flowers.

The Groom is unique amongst snowdrops and has considerable potential for the breeding of new varieties. It is unique to ourselves and arose as a chance seedling amongst a large colony of elwesii in an old Perthshire garden.

The poculiform variety of Elwesii is called the Bride; hence the name chosen for this plant.
