Lady Beatrix Stanley is a neat, double flowered version of the single marked variant of Galanthus elwesii. It was long known as caucasicus double and caucasicus flore pleno.
The plants originated in the garden of Lady Beatrix Stanley and began to be distributed after the second world war under the above mentioned names. Although it looks like pure elwesii, investigation has shown that it gained its doubleness from Galanthus nivalis; so it is actually a hybrid.
This is a good garden plant; tolerant of a wide range of conditions and usually increasing well with little attention.
