Ikariae

Galanthus ikariae is undoubtedly one of the aristocrats of the genus; a late flowering convolute with completely green inner petals in a large flower.

The true plant occurs in shady ravines on four islands in the Aegean and may, as a result, be one of the less hardy members of the genus. its' naming has become confused over the years, but is clearly untangled in the recent publications on the genus.

The true plant is quite distinctive and is  an asset to any collection of snowdrops. Like galanthus platyphyllus, however, this is another plant that is very difficult to acquire. Plants sold under this name invariably prove to be Galanthus woronowii.

Galanthus ikariae (compared to woronowii) has darker matt leaves, is later flowering with larger flowers and an inner petal mark covering more than half of the inner petal.

We offer the true species.
