Faringdon Double is a double elwesii noted for its extremely early flowering. There is only a modest increase in inner petal number to between six and nine; you often have to look inside to realise they are doubles.
The original plants were found growing in a churchyard in Faringdon, Oxfordshire. Fortunately some bulbs were acquired and brought into cultivation before the colony was eradicated by tidy minded strimming.
