A former snowdrop supplier operated from a property at Hyde Lodge. not suprisingly, when large numbers of snowdrops grew together and hybrids arose spontaneously. The former properties of snowdrop enthusiasts are usually fertile hunting grounds for new varieties; and Hyde Lodge is no exception.

Curly was found and named in the 1960's by Richard Nutt and Herbert Ransom.
